Tropical Depression Likely to Form Soon over Caribbean, No Threat to Gulf of Mexico

| October 30, 2022 @ 3:12 pm

Our on-again, off-again relationship with Invest 95L appears to be back on. The NHC has the probability of it becoming a tropical depression at 90% over the next 48 hours.

The Hurricane Hunters found 30-35 knot winds on the north side of the system, so if it becomes better organized we might already have a tropical storm even. That does seem to be happening around 72-73 deg West, or about 200 miles south of Hispaniola. There is some chance that the Hurricane Center will give it a Potential Tropical Cyclone so they can begin issuing advisories and watches and warnings.

Next up on the name list is Lisa, followed by Martin.

Water temps are still warm over the Caribbean, so that will nnot be a hindrance to the developing storm. It could become hurricane over western Caribbean. Belize and Honduras will have to be on high alert.

Two global models in agreement on development and bring it into Belize on Day 4, which is Wednesday.

The potential storm is NO THREAT to any part of the Gulf of Mexico thanks to the high pressure that will be giving us fine weather all week.

We will be watching late in the week and into the weekend for another tropical cyclone to potentially form over the Caribbean Sea or Bahamas. There are some hints from the ensembles that eastern Florida or the Southeast coast up through Georgia and the Carolinas could be in play late in week two around Thursday the 10th or Friday the 11th.
