Midday Nowcast: Front Slowly Sinking South

| April 6, 2023 @ 10:07 am

The cold front has very little southward momentum, but is slowly sagging south through the state the next couple of days. For today, the more widespread rain will continue to be over the northwestern counties of the state. For the rest of the state, afternoon rain and storms will be more scattered, and we are seeing that wide range in temperatures this afternoon with 60s and 70s to the northwest, while 80s are widespread elsewhere. As the front continues slowly south tomorrow, expect occasional rain with some rumbles of thunder. Highs drop into the 50 and 60s tomorrow for the northern half of the state, while 70s and 80s are expected again for South Alabama.

EASTER WEEKEND: Saturday will be a cool and wet at times, with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s across North/Central Alabama; the southern counties will be closer to 70°. The rain will end and the sky will finally clear Saturday night, and Easter Sunday looks dry, with temperatures in the mid and upper 60s and ample sunshine.

NEXT WEEK: An upper ridge will build across the region, meaning warm and mainly dry conditions with highs will be in the 70s. However, we note, the models are hinting at a possible low developing in the Gulf early next week that could that could spread rain north into South Alabama and could also drag down some cooler air. For now, we will continue to monitor trends for possible forecast adjustments.
