Midday Nowcast: Nice, Spring Days

| April 10, 2023 @ 10:30 am

Several nice days ahead for much of Alabama as we will see more sun than clouds and afternoon highs mainly in the upper 60s to mid-70s through midweek. Nights will remain chilly with lows in the 40s. It will stay dry for all of North/Central Alabama through Wednesday. Over the next few days, we will be watching a developing low pressure in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. It will begin to spread rain and storms northward across Louisiana and Mississippi the next couple of days, and that rain should begin to move into Southwest Alabama on Wednesday.

RAIN SPREADS INLAND: As the Gulf low moves northward through Mississippi, widespread occasional rain will move into Central and North Alabama Thursday and Friday. Rainfall amounts will be around one-half inch to one inch for North/Central Alabama, while portions of South Alabama could receive over two inches. Despite the clouds and rain, temperatures Thursday and Friday will be in the mid to upper 70s. As the low pulls away from Alabama late Friday, the rain will come to an end by Friday evening for most locations.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: For now it looks like most of the state will be dry and warm Saturday with a high in the low to mid 80s. On Sunday, a cold front will bring rain and storms back to Alabama. A few strong storms are possible, but at this time severe storms are not expected. We will continue to monitor trends the next couple of days as this could change. Highs Sunday will be in the 70s. Behind the cold front, a dry airmass will settle into the state Monday, and for now much of the week looks dry and pleasant with mild afternoons and cool nights.
