Turns Out to be a Beautiful Sunday

| April 16, 2023 @ 3:31 pm

The clearing trend across Alabama has gone faster than I expected on this mid-April Sunday.

Temperatures are in the 60s northwest of I-59 with 70s to the southeast. The near-full sunshine is really helping in this department.

Dewpoints are in the 40s over all except Southeast Alabama, giving the air a little refreshing bite across North and Central Alabama.

Some high clouds will drift across mainly the southern half of the area this afternoon. Skies will become completely clear overnight. Lows will be in the 40s areawide.

Monday will be a cool and breezy day with highs in the lower to middle 70s for the most part, except for 60s over Northeast Alabama. There will be a fresh westerly breeze averaging over 10 mph and gusting at times to near 20 mph.

A nice warming trend starts Tuesday with the 80s becoming common. It will be quite warm by Wednesday and Thursday with widespread middle 80s. Humidity levels will start to rise and clouds will increase on Thursday.

The models are coming into better agreement with the next storm system. Both bring some rain and storms to Northwest Alabama Thursday night with rain and storms likely across the area Friday. The GFS holds off the main rain and storms til Saturday afternoon and night. The European brings the rain and storms in Friday with a second system bringing more rain and storms Saturday night into Sunday. We will leave rain chances in for both days.

Severe weather will be possible Thursday night over the Northwest, across Central and South Alabama Friday and Friday night, and again on Saturday afternoon and evening. We will be able to better refine the timing as we go through the week.
