Midday Nowcast: A Mix of Sun and Clouds
Lingering showers from this morning have dissipated and we are seeing a a partly sunny sky and dry conditions across much of North/Central Alabama. Temperatures this afternoon are in the mid to upper 70s. Tonight will feature passing clouds with lows in the mid 50s for most locations.
WEEKEND WEATHER: Most of tomorrow will be dry for the northern half of the state with with a mix of sun and clouds along with a highs in the lower 80s. Rain and storms will be more common across South Alabama and along the northern Gulf Coast tomorrow.
The SPC maintains a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for these areas; south of a line from Thomsville to Hayneville to Phenix City. Storms down that way tomorrow afternoon and evening could produce hail and gusty winds; an isolated tornado is possible over the southeast corner of the state.
By late tomorrow afternoon, a large area of rain along with a few thunderstorms will enter West Alabama, and rain is likely statewide tomorrow night. Rain should end fairly early in the day Sunday, and the sky becomes partly sunny Sunday afternoon. Sunday will be cooler with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
NEXT WEEK: It still looks like most of next week will be dry and very nice; perfect weather to start the month of May. Temperatures will begin to moderate through the week with highs in the 70s Monday and Tuesday, with low 80s possible over the latter half of the week. Late in the week, some showers are likely to return.
