Snow, Rain and Cold Stats

…..60% of the USA (not counting Alaska) had a snow cover this morning. That compared to 62% yesterday morning. Today, in the central part of the country, there was ablanket from about the north half of Texas northward to Canada. In the west, from Northern Arizona to Canada. In the east, from the mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina NE to Maine.

…..In this latest snow, Spearfish, South Dakota (elevation about 5300 feet, got 26 inches of snow within 24 hours.

…..Des Moines has received 24 inches of snow so far this winter.

…..In Oklahoma, both Newcastle and Oklahoma City had 14 inches of snow in 24 hours.

…..There is 198 inches of snow on the ground at Little Warm, in NW Wyoming. That is one of those high country automated snow measuring stations called SNOTEL. Strange name (Little Warm) for such a snowy place!

…..In Great Smoky Mountain National Park, there was still 18 inches on the ground on Mt. Leconte. Newfound Gap had 6 inches.

…..Coldest temperatures this morning included 14 below zero at Bryce Canyon, Utah and 22 bwlow zero at Anaktuvuk Pass, Alaska. Valdez, Alaska has 42 inches of snow on the ground.

…..Barrow, on the Arctic Coast of Alaska, still has zero chance of sunlight. They are in their long winter night.

…..Mobile has received 75.85 inches of rain so far this year. Average by December 26 is 65.36.

…..Birmingham got well over an inch of rain in the last storm and now sports 71.49 inches for the year. That is a surplus of 18.28 inches. Amazing!
