| July 9, 2023 @ 7:07 pm

A band of thunderstorms with heavy rain extends across Central Alabama tonight.

The heaviest rain is across parts of Shelby, Talladega, Clay, and Bibb Counties. Heavy rain near Montevallo and near Sylacauga.. There are some storms moving out of southern Walker into northern Jefferson County as well.

A flash flood warning was just issued for parts of Shelby and Talladega Counties.

Rainfall amounts are approaching 5 inches in southwestern Shelby County and in Talladega County north of Talladega Springs. The amounts over 4 inches extend east toward Sylacauga and heavy rain is ongoing. More heavy rain is starting again in the Calera area.

Flash flood advisories remain in effect for parts of Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, and Talladega Counties.

Rainfall amounts of over 2 inches affected the northern parts of the City of Birmingham. A water rescue was reported by Birmingham Fire and Rescue on Messer Airport Highway according to John Talbot. Only 0.44″ at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth Airport though.

John also reports tree down blocking Cahaba Valley Road at Sunny Meadows Drive. Some gusty winds to 40 mph are possible with the stronger storms. That damage was probably caused by the outflow from the storm along Highway that was near Westover.
