| July 16, 2023 @ 11:57 am

Skies are partly cloudy across the northern half of Alabama at this hour and temperatures are climbing through the mid and upper 80s for the most part. The mercury has already reached 87F at Birmingham and Anniston and 86F at Tuscaloosa.

Radars are quiet at this hour and only isolated showers and storms are expected today thanks to slightly drier air behind a weak cool front lying across Central Alabama.

We will drying out and heating up in the days ahead as the persistent heat ridge over the southwestern United States extends its influence eastward into the Deep South. High temperatures by Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be in the middle and upper 90s. Heat index values will be approaching and exceeding 105F, so heat advisories will likely be required.

Showers and storms will be few and far between Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. They will start to increase by Friday and the weekend.
