Heads Up North Alabama: Watch Likely by Late Morning

The SPC has issued a mesoscale discussion for the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama, Northeast Mississippi, and southern Tennessee.

In it, they mention high amounts of instability, higher than average wind shear for this time of year, and the presence of low level turning. That means tornadoes are possible today,

This raises the question of whether it will be a sever thunderstorm or tornado watch, but don’t be surprised if it is a tornado watch. Quite unusual for August without a landfalling tropical cyclone.

The SPC and NWS Offices have not started coordinating the watch yet, but just a heads up that it is likely.
