Quick look at models

00Z models have backed off on snow somewhat for BHM area, not showing the Gulf low we need to get heavy snow this far north. Water equivalent on GFS is 0.09″, NAM is 0.05″, meaning about 1″ in BHM. The Canadian has also backed off some (it has been the most aggressive model with snow), with water equivalent precip in BHM of 0.20″. All 3 models show the heaviest snow would occur farther south, maybe Clanton or Montgomery. 00Z Euro not in yet, but previous run consistent with current GFS and NAM. This is only one set of model runs, and everything could change. However, it seems that without any significant Gulf low development, the heaviest precip will occur near the coast.

The extreme cold continues…Birmingham’s high was only 28 today, and tomorrow even with sunshine we’ll reach about 32. The models still show lows near 10 and highs in the 20s over the weekend. James will have a more detailed look in the video early tomorrow morning.
