Tropical Storm Watches for Antigua and Barbuda

| October 1, 2023 @ 12:08 pm

Here is the latest on the tropics…

Rina is about 1165 miles east northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and should become a post-tropical low by tomorrow.

Philippe is shifting a little closer to the Leewards after I had written it off in the video this morning.  That will show me.

The center of Philippe is about 150 miles east of the island of Guadeloupe late this morning.  Top winds are 50 mph but the storm is pretty disheveled on satellite imagery, with a good bit of shear going on.

It should slowly strengthen though as it passes within about 25 miles of Barbuda Monday night. Tropical storm force winds could brush the northernmost Leeward including places like Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and St. Maarten.

A tropical storm watch has been issued for Antigua and Barbuda.

The storm should clear the islands by Tuesday morning and it will turn northward and northeastward over the Central Atlantic, strengthening into a hurricane by Wednesday and passing about 350 miles southeast of Bermuda by early Friday as a 90 mph hurricane.
