Midday Nowcast: Sunny, Cold Monday
Greetings from the campus of Georgia Tech University in Downtown Atlanta, where I am attending the Integrated Warning Training Meeting hosted by the National Weather Service Office in Peachtree City. Just one of the many workshops we attend through out the year to gain a better understanding of changes coming out of the National Weather Service. It also gives us a chance to meet and greet fellow meteorologists, EMA directors, NWS officials, etc to discuss ways to better communicate with the general public potential weather hazards. Now to the forecast…
QUIET PATTERN THIS WEEK: Mainly sunny days and cold nights highlight the forecast this week across Alabama. It will remain dry, giving us a chance to dry out after the very beneficial weekend soaker we received. Highs today are in the 50s; tonight, expect freezing temperatures areawide with upper 20s for most locations. For the rest of this week, expect some moderation with highs rising from the 50s into the 60s. Lows will be in the 30s and 40s.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Big differences in global model output for this weekend, making for a low confidence forecast this far out. For now, a surface low is expected to form in the northern Gulf of Mexico, and at this point it looks like the best chance of rain will come over the southern half of the state. Rain amounts are expected to be 1/2 inch or less for South Alabama, and no severe storms are expected. Highs for the weekend will be close to 60° for most places. Again, stay tuned for forecast updates the next couple of days.
NEXT WEEK: At this point the weather looks generally dry for much next week with seasonal temperatures. Still too far out to even consider a Christmas forecast.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 87F at Miles City, FL. The lowest observation was -20F at Peter Sinks, UT.
