Midday Nowcast: Sunny Days, Dry All Week

| December 18, 2023 @ 10:10 am

SUN-FILLED MONDAY: It remains a sunny and breezy across Alabama with a high in the 50s. By the evening, a new surge of colder will drop into Alabama, setting the stage for a cold night. Widespread 20s are in the forecast for tomorrow morning and wind chills will make it feel colder, and these will dip into the upper teens in some places over North Alabama tonight and tomorrow morning.

DRY WITH MODERATING TEMPS: Tomorrow will be sunny, but cold across Alabama with highs in the 40s for the northern half of the state. The weather will stay dry for the rest of the week and we will see a warming trend as the week continues. From 40s tomorrow to upper 50s and mid 60s by Friday.

CHRISTMAS WEEKEND: Look for increasing clouds on Saturday, but it will remain dry. To our west, our next weather system will be organizing. We will bring in a chance of rain Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but it is just too early to be specific about timing, rain amounts, or whether thunderstorms will be involved. For now, the chance of severe thunderstorms looks low with no surface based instability. Highs will likely be in the upper 50s and low 60s both days, a little above average for late December in Alabama.

REST OF 2023: Still no signs of Arctic air for the rest of December as temperatures are expected to remain a little above average through next week. As far as rainfall, we will look at that in future forecasts, but the pattern suggest a few rounds of rain may be possible by the time we say goodbye to 2023.
