Messy Morning

| January 16, 2024 @ 8:37 am

The operative word this morning across North and Central Alabama is slick. And not in a good way.

A Bessemer Police Officer actually involved in a wreck at MM 6 on I-459. Now numerous wrecks between MM 4-6 on I-459 including an 18 wheeler that is leaking fuel.

Radar is showing snow streaks across the Birmingham Metro area, including one in that location.

Snowing modertely in Helena says Melissa Sizemore from Jeffco EMA.

Shades Crest Road is closed from Brocks Gap to Highway 150.

I-65 getting slicker south of Birmingham.

280 coming up DoUble Oak Mountain from the south is a mess with 18 wheelers that can’t get up the hill. Shelby County has shut down 280 in Chelsea due to numerous wrecks.

Here is a view of 280 at Brook Highland:

Images from Blount County look like a mess with roads ice covered.

Even Hale County getting in on the act this morning with Highway 69 closed north of Demopolis due to 18 wheelers not being able to get up the hill.

Folks, just stay put across the area this morning. Things are not going to improve until temperatures warm up above freezing tomorrow. Throw in ridiculously cold temperatures and wind chills readings below zero or in the single digits and this is a dangerous situation.
