Looking West…
Our thin line of storms extends from western Kentucky through western Tennessee, into northern Mississippi and into extreme eastern Louisiana.
In Mississippi, it extends from just west of Greenwood to west of Oxford to near Holly Springs. This is about 100 miles west of the Alabama border (Lamar County). It is moving east at 30 mph. This keeps it on a timetable to reach West Alabama around 2 a.m.
It looks like the line could reach Birmingham around 4:30…but…some showers and storms have formed ahead of the main line. A strong storm was moving through the Jackson area. Winds gusted to 33 mph at the Jackson Airport. This activity could reach Lamar and Marion County a little earlier…around 12:30. Other storms were increasing south of Jackson, which could mean more storms earlier in West Central Alabama.
Still a good bit of lightning along the line and in those storms near Jackson. Some hail to pea size and very heavy rain as well.
There could be some scattered reports of wind damage with the line, but the potential seems to be low.
Additional showers are forming over Southwest and West Central Alabama, as far north as Marengo county. This could put showers into the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area between midnight and 1 a.m.
Outside thunderstorms, winds could gust to close to 40 mph, which could be sufficient to down a few limbs and even topple a few trees. Turn on your Weatheradio before heading to bed, but hopefully we won’t have any warnings.
A couple of reports…
JACKSON
A 46 mph wind gust was reported at Greenwood just ahead of the line.
