Midday Nowcast: Clearing Sky, Cooler, and Breezy

The final day of the month is a featuring a clearing sky behind the clipper system that moved through the state last night. This afternoon will is featuring a mainly sunny sky and cooler temperatures with highs in the low 50s. It is a bit breezy day at times with northerly winds of 10-15 mph, making it feel cooler out there today. Tonight will feature a clear sky and freezing temperatures with upper 20s and lower 30s for all of North/Central Alabama.

HELLO FEBRUARY: The new month starts off very nice. The weather will be dry tomorrow and Friday with sunny days and fair nights. Highs will be closer to 60° tomorrow, followed by low to mid 60s statewide Friday. Expect lows generally in the 30s and 40s these night.

ACROSS THE USA: An atmospheric river over the West Coast will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds from southern Oregon to central California today, pushing south into southern California into Thursday. Heavy snowfall is expected over the Sierra and Intermountain West through Thursday. Warmer temperatures ranging between 20 to 40 degrees above average will expand across the Plains and Mississippi Valley.

WEEKEND WEATHER: Saturday will be dry and pleasant with highs mostly in the 60s, but there will be some 70s on the maps too. Clouds will increase late in the afternoon as our next weather system will bring rain back into the state late Saturday night and through the day on Sunday. Periods of rain are expected and there could be some rumbles of thunder, but we are not expecting severe weather, due to the low pressure tracking to the south of the area. If there are any strong storms Sunday, they will be confined to areas along the Gulf Coast. Highs Sunday will be in the 50s.

NEXT WEEK: Rain will linger into Monday statewide, but for the rest of next week, the weather looks dry with highs mostly in the 50s, and lows mostly in the 30s. No signs of bitterly cold Arctic air for the Deep South for the next 7-10 days.
