Midday Nowcast: Gradual Clearing Sky

It remains cloudy and cold with lingering light rain across the state. Temperatures are generally in the low to upper 50s across the state today. The upper-level low responsible for all the rain, will continue to sink off towards the south today and most of the rain will continue to slide to the south through the afternoon and evening hours. We note, the sky is clearing across North Alabama, and as that drier air sinks south today, we should see a gradually clearing sky through the afternoon hours. Tonight will be mainly clear and cold as lows settle down into the mid-30s.

TOMORROW-THURSDAY: Dry weather is the story the next three days with mostly sunny, pleasant afternoons and fair, chilly nights Expect highs mostly in the 60s, with lows in the 30s and 40s.

FRDIAY & THE WEEKEND: Clouds return Friday ahead of a cold front, and some rain will likely move into the northern half of the state. Highs remain in the 60s Friday. Unsettled weather will continue into the weekend with periods of rain both Saturday and Sunday. The most widespread rain will be across North/Central Alabama, where amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible. Amounts for the southern third of the state will be 1/2 inch or less for most communities. Highs hold in the 60s over the weekend.

INTO NEXT WEEK: Areas of rain could linger into Monday, but the rest of the week looks dry with seasonal temperatures. We are forecasting highs mostly in the 50s, lows in the 30s. Still no signs of bitterly cold Arctic air for Alabama and the Deep South the next couple of weeks.
