Midday Nowcast: Wonderful Wednesday Weather

| February 21, 2024 @ 10:24 am

NICE WARM-UP: A beautiful day across Alabama and the Deep South with blue sky and sunshine in full supply. Temperatures are surging into the upper 60s and lower 70s across the state. Tonight will feature chilly temperatures with lows in the low and mid 40s. Tomorrow will be just as warm with widespread 70s, but tomorrow afternoon clouds will increase and a cold front will bring some light rain to the state late tomorrow. However, with limited moisture, rain amounts will be under 1/2 inch; there could be some rumbles of thunder, but there is no threat of severe storms.

USA BRIEF: A storm off the Pacific Northwest coast will continue low elevation rain and thunderstorms, mountain snow, and gusty winds over much of the West Coast and parts of the Intermountain West into Wednesday before tapering off Wednesday night. Dry, gusty winds will likely bring critical fire weather conditions to parts of New Mexico, southeast Colorado, west Texas, and Guam Wednesday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Expect a clearing sky Friday with highs in the 60s. Then for the weekend, expect the nicest weekend of weather so far in 2024 for Alabama. Expect mostly sunny, pleasant days and fair nights both Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be mostly in the upper 60s and low 70s both days.

NEXT WEEK: It looks like the warmest week so far this year with highs mostly in the mid and upper 70s through Wednesday. A front will bring rain and storms Wednesday and Wednesday night; a few strong storms are certainly possible based on the setup, but too early to know any specifics. Definitely something we will watch over the next week. But for now, it looks like the main dynamic forcing will be north and west of Alabama and that is where the highest severe weather threat will most likely will be. For the second half of the week, the weather looks quiet with sunny days and highs in the 60s.
