Old Severe Thunderstorm Watch Allowed to Expire…New Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for South Alabama

| March 15, 2024 @ 12:25 pm

Here is the new watch. It goes until 7 p.m. CDT. Wind gusts of 65 mph and hail up to ping pong ball is possible.

Our line of storms continues to sink slowly south across South Central Alabama this afternoon. Skies ahead of it over South Alabama have undergone some clearing and the heating is helping the atmosphere to become unstable.

An approaching shortwave will help enhance rising motions and fairly widespread strong storms are expected to develop this afternoon across southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.

There could be a few isolated supercells that produce large hail and damaging winds. There could also be a couple of tornadoes says the SPC. There is a slight risk (2/5) over South Alabama.
