Midday Nowcast: Showers Remain; Storm Threat over South Alabama

STORMS PUSHING SOUTH: The stronger storms from this morning are now over southern portions of the state, where a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect this afternoon; the severe weather threat is over for the northern half of the state.

We continue to see areas of rain the next few hours, but the rain will wind down through the afternoon and evening hours, and should end overnight. Temperatures tonight will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

WEEKEND WEATHER: The forecast for tomorrow will be mainly dry, and we should see some sun, but overall the sky will feature more clouds. Highs tomorrow will be in the 70s. Sunday will be cloudy with scattered showers at times, highs will be in the mid to upper 60s. A few stronger storms will be possible over southern portions of the state, near the Gulf Coast.

LATE SEASON FREEZE: Colder air moves into Alabama Monday as a front pushes south. Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the 50s. Tuesday morning lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s across the North/Central Alabama with another freeze warning likely. Again, it remains too earl to be planting anything. Temperatures begin to moderate through the week and rain will likely return by either Thursday or Friday. For now, the end of week system does not look like a severe weather setup.
