Clouds were holding tough across much of Alabama this morning, but I do believe we’ll see the sun later today. However, with a nice band of snow and ice just to our north, I do not expect to see Central Alabama highs get much above about 44 or 45 today.

The dry weather stays with us Monday as temperatures begin to recover some – look for highs to climb back into the 50s. A weak impulse in the southern stream is expected to generate a week low in the Gulf, but models seem to be coming closer with keeping the rain across the Gulf and South Alabama. Looks like the greatest rain threat is from Montgomery southward. We’ll see clouds overnight Monday into early Tuesday with a very small chance that a little light rain might fall.

Drying occurs again Tuesday and we stay dry into Wednesday. By Thursday, another strong short wave in the southern stream is gathering strength as it moves our way. Thursday will probably remain mostly dry as clouds increase, but the greatest rain chances come late Thursday and Friday. The pattern suggests some potential for severe weather across the Florida Peninsula, so we’ll be watching how that evolves.

Some rain and clouds will stick around into early Saturday, but it looks like much of the weekend will be dry and chilly once again.

Looking into voodoo country, the southern stream remains active with a steady string of storm systems across the Gulf Coast area well into February.
