The Mid-Afternoon Weather Check

| April 13, 2024 @ 2:13 pm

As forecast from earlier today, skies are clear across the area, with only a few wispy cirrus clouds over the extreme southern portions and down into South Alabama. Temperatures at 2 PM were ranging in the mid 70s to lower 80s. Demopolis was at 81ºF as the warm spot, while three locations were tied at 76ºF as the cool spots. Birmingham was at 78ºF.

Today’s weather is influenced by a trough of low pressure off the Mid Atlantic Coast and a ridge of high pressure over much of the Plains. This means our area will have dry weather, with just some high clouds moving in from the west and southwest. The winds will be light, blowing from the northwest at around 5-10 mph. Temperatures will range from the mid 70s to low 80s across our region.

Tonight, the high-pressure system will move over Northern Florida, leading to mostly clear skies with a few high clouds in the southwest. There might be some fog, especially near rivers and lakes, before sunrise. The winds will shift to come from the southwest but will still be light at 3-5 mph. Overnight temperatures will range from the upper 40s to low 50s.

Tomorrow, there will be a deep low-pressure system moving over California and Nevada, while high pressure strengthens over the Plains. This will result in a mix of clouds and sun for us, with a southwest wind at 5-10 mph. Temperatures will be in the lower 80s across the area.
