Stay Alert Tonight Just in Case

| May 26, 2024 @ 4:58 pm

The NWS Birmingham and SPC are concerned about tonight’s storms producing damaging winds, hail, and even a tornado tonight between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. in Central Alabama. There is a conditional chance that any strong updrafts that do form could produce any mode of severe weather including a tornado. But the HRRR model is not depicting strong updraft tracks.

Here are the tornado probabilities through 7 a.m.

The red is a 15% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a point in the outlook area, the yellow is a 10%, the olive green a 5% and the bright green a 2% probability.

The cross hatched area includes a 10% or greater risk of EF2-EF5 tornadoes within 25 miles.

Check the weather late this evening. Scott Martin will be monitoring the weather and posting overnight. We will have a post around 10 p.m. before bedtime. Keep your weather alert sources activated and close at hand overnight.
