A quick peek at the 12Z run of the NAM confirms the trend of the American models adjusting northward on our Friday surface low in the Gulf of Mexico.

Extraction of the NAM shows 0.12″ of liquid for Birmingham, or around 1 inch of snow, which matches our idea for the I-20 corridor from the morning discussion. Montgomery’s liquid from the 12Z run is 0.31″, which matches the idea of 1 to 3 inches of snow for the U.S. 80 corridor.

Bottom line is that the forecast from early this morning looks right on track. But, if the northward adjustment continues, which is very possible, we will need to adjust all of these numbers higher on the afternoon package. A winter storm watch will be required for parts of Central and South Alabama later this afternoon, so stay tuned…
