Evening Report…

Been out of pocket much of the day today with church, kids stuff, etc. This event is not falling on my watch, but here are some observations that might be helpful as you plan your day tomorrow….

WHEN? The snow won’t begin until after midnight, so if you have something planned this evening, you won’t have any problems. Rain should change to snow in the midnight to 3:00 a.m. time frame over North Alabama. This will be a quick hitting storm; most of the snow should be gone by 8:00 a.m. You will have to get up pretty early to see it. However, there will be snow flurries during the day tomorrow after the main event.

TRAVEL ISSUES? Tomorrow morning, yes. Much like Friday, the main issue will be bridges, but some secondary roads could become slippery where heavier bands of snow set up. Temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing tomorrow, but we should be in the mid 30s by midday. Hopefully that will keep problems to a minimum during the middle of the day, but we drop back below freezing tomorrow evening, so some black ice issues could drop up tomorrow night. I think we will be in pretty good shape Tuesday morning with evaporation taking care of most of the moisture.

HOW MUCH? The NWS is using snow amounts of 2 to 3 inches in their winter storm warning area, which includes Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden. Lighter amounts to the south and west.

CLOSINGS: We refer you to ABC 33/40’s main site for school closings and other information concerning tomorrow…

Bill, J.B., and Dr. Tim will have updates throughout the evening…. so stay tuned…
