Big Flakes of Snow

The NWS has expanded the Winter Weather Advisory until 10:00 tonight and it now includes these counties:
Blount
Etowah
Calhoun
Cherokee
Pickens
Tuscaloosa
Jefferson
St. Clair

This, of course, includes the Birmingham metropolitan area as well as Tuscaloosa, Oneonta, Gadsden and Anniston. A large area of snow showers has been moving southeast for several hours. There is an outside chance that some places will accumulate 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Temperatures will be falling below freezing, so there may be some travel problems before it is all over.

Heavy snow was reported earlier in Winfield. We also have a report of very large flakes on the Black Warrior River west of Hueytown. At my place in NE Trussville, we have very large flakes coming down and beginning to accumulate lightly. The temperature here has dropped to 32.

We will keep watch throughout the evening.
