Snow update – 635 pm

| February 15, 2010 @ 6:41 pm | 11 Replies

Moderate snow is coming down here in Trussville, and it is starting to cover elevated surfaces. Temperatures have dropped quickly to near 30, since the air is so cold aloft (21 degrees at 3,000 feet) and the snowflakes are so cold. The snowflakes are fluffier than normal for Alabama due to the cold…it looks kind of like a snow globe.

Since the sun was out today, road surfaces (other than bridges) are a little warm. However, bridges may start to ice very soon, and other roads may ice by 8 pm, with melting snow turning to ice as the temperature drops into the 20s. Travel is not advised this evening in central Alabama.
