An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RIGHT NOW: Still pretty cold out there at mid-afternoon. Haleyville was reporting only 29 degrees at 2:00… while other communities were generally in the 30s with an icy breeze. A few snow flurries continue over the northeast corner of the state; I saw a few snow flakes earlier today when I was in Piedmont, in northern Calhoun County. Tonight will be cold again with lows well down in the 20s, with teens for the colder spots by daybreak tomorrow.

REST OF THE WEEK: We will be dry for the rest of the week with a slow warming trend. Again, the MOS products want to warm us up too fast; they have been too warm in recent days, and most likely are too warm through Friday. I expect mid 40s tomorrow, a high close to 50 Thursday, and mid 50s on Friday. We will remain below freezing early morning, with lows mostly in the 20s.

THE WEEKEND: Confidence in the weekend forecast is very low. A fast zonal flow sets up, and each model run paints a different picture concerning the details of the ripples moving along in that flow. I think we will simply mention just a chance of a shower Saturday (most of the day should be dry), followed by another chance of a shower Sunday night and Monday. Highs over the weekend will be in the mid to upper 50s; we should have better clarity in coming days. Bottom line is that it could rain a bit this weekend, but no wash-out or anything really heavy.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Lots of cold air shows up over Canada, and that should move back down into the continental U.S. at some point during the latter half of the month. We just can’t be specific… just understand we still have cold weather to deal with before spring sets in. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

STORM ALERT 2010 COMES TO MOUNDVILLE THURSDAY: Our annual severe weather rolls along; our next stop will be on Thursday at Hale County High School. You can meet the ABC 33/40 Weather team, see some amazing Alabama weather stories, learn how to keep your family safe this tornado season, and win some cool stuff. The show begins at 7:00; be sure and get there early to get a good seat. See the entire tour schedule here!

LIVE CHAT: We are now offering a real time chat here on the blog… open blog comments will stay in place, of course, but this will allow a more immediate method of communication for weather geeks. We do have moderators posted over there, so be sure and play nice. Members of our weather team will be there from time to time to answer questions; we will post those times we are available here on the blog.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. Scroll down for the notes on this week’s new show.

I had a great time today visiting with the 2nd graders at Piedmont Elementary… be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News! I will have the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
