An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

WELCOMED WARMTH: Temperatures this afternoon are generally in the 55 to 59 degree range, almost up to average values for mid-February in Alabama. And, if you like today, you should love the weekend. Models are printing low to mid 60s tomorrow, followed by mid to upper 60s Sunday. For many Alabama communities Sunday could very well be the warmest day so far in 2010. While there will be scattered clouds around over the weekend, looks like we stay generally dry.

However, rain will return late Sunday night into Monday. Still looks like the main window for rain will come from 12:00 midnight Sunday night to 12:00 noon Monday; rain amounts of 1/2 to 3/4 inch seem likely. A thunderstorm or two is possible with a little surface based instability, but we don’t expect any severe weather issues.

COLD AIR RETURNS by the middle of next week. Model output about specific weather next remains muddy due to inconsistencies, but the latest GFS runs hint at some risk of light snow or snow flurries late Tuesday night and Wednesday as much colder air invades the Deep South. Not enough evidence to really get worked up about this right now; let’s watch it over the weekend. The weather for the latter half of next week and the following weekend looks cold, as the frigid winter of 2009-2010 rolls along.
