Flood Advisory for portions of Blount, Jefferson and Walker Counties until 745 pm CDT
New flood advisory for portions of Blount, Jefferson and Walker Counties until 745 pm CDT. Between 1-2″ of rain has fallen, another 1-2″ could start to bring in some problems with small stream flooding. Low-lying and poor drainage areas could start to flood as well. This is on the southern end of the strong storms that extend further north into Cullman County. The advisory extends from Dora to Warrior to Hayden.

…FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 745 PM CDT THIS EVENING…
* WHAT…Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is
expected.
* WHERE…A portion of central Alabama, including the following
counties, Blount, Jefferson and Walker.
* WHEN…Until 745 PM CDT.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Rises in small streams.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 444 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding. Between
1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
– Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Sumiton, Dora, Warrior, Hayden, Arkadelphia, Blount Springs,
Bangor, Burnwell, Rickwood Caverns, Partridge Crossroads,
Smoke Rise, Empire and Sayre.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are low water crossings which are potentially
dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find
an alternate route.
