In The Middle of The Night–11:45 Report

| March 1, 2010 @ 11:43 pm | Reply

Raining over most of the state as midnight approaches. Brighter radar return in the center of the state, may be some sleet involved

TEMPERATURES ONLY
The temperature is crucial tonight as we watch for cooling from above and not just colder air coming in from the west or northwest. Thanks to our 33/40 Skywatchers (we could not do without them) for these reports mainly in the last 45 minutes or so.

WHERE IS OUR LOW PRESSURE AREA?
Based on an 11 pm surface analysis, the center has moved more eastward and is just offshore south of Mobile. The low seems to be tracking due east across the North Gulf–very much on track with model projections.

Still no change in our thinking. Rain changing to snow early tomorrow (Tuesday) Best chance of accumulations from about Shelby and Jefferson County east and NE. Probably best place of all, the higher elevations over East and Northeast Alabama. Scroll down and check the map that James posted earlier tonight. There is an old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words–so is a map.
