Very Early on Tuesday Morning–3:45 Report

We have been waiting and watching all night, but still no snow around Alabama as of 3:45 am. There was a brief period of light sleet earlier at Haleyville, and some sleet mixed with rain at several other places earlier in the night. Haleyville is in NW Alabama. However we have not seen reports of flurries.

Just a cold rain and now parts of South Alabama getting a break from that.

The low pressure area in the Northern Gulf of Mixico has now moved over into the NE corner of the Gulf. This is almost exactly the track that weather models projected.

Temperatures at this hour are mostly in the 30s and 40s.

There is still a chance of a changeover to snow later this morning and that could extend off and on into the afternoon. Any accumulation in the Birmingham area should be light, probably not more than about 1/2 inch and even that mostly on grassy area, roofs, etc.

Morning rush hour should be safe as far as ice is concerned–just wet from rain.

Even if we get a change over to snow, temperatures will hover in the mid to possibly some upper 30s which would negate travel problems.

The better chance of accumulating snow will be over East and NE Alabama, especially in the counties with higher elevations.

It is too early to call this snow a no-show snow because all along the snow was expected to be a daytime event.

Even so, everything will be examined again in new forecasts a little later this morning.

Thank God for the Good Ole USA and coffee!!

Stay tuned…
