Looking For Warmer Weather

TODAY: Looks like the sky cleared during the night over the western half of the state, but clouds hang been hanging tough over East Alabama. We figure the clouds will fill back in for many areas today with cold air continuing to stream in from the north. Today’s high will be in the mid to upper 40s, well below the average high of 63 for March 3.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: A warming trend headlines the forecast. Lots of sunshine each day, with a high in the low 50s tomorrow, mid 50s Friday, mid 60s Saturday, and upper 60s Sunday. I think everybody will be delighted with the weather this weekend, and it will finally feel like spring. At least for a little while.

NEXT WEEK: The 06Z GFS has backed off a bit on the intensity of the short wave early next week; it still shows a severe weather setup for the ArkLaTex region Monday with a deep surface low over Kansas and a trailing cold front. The low fills Monday night as it moves northeast, and a weakening band of showers and storms moves into Alabama Tuesday. Hopefully that trend will continue, but this is tornado season, and at some point we will have to deal with strong storms.

MID-MONTH: The Arctic Oscillation is forecast to go negative again, meaning cold weather for much of the eastern and southern U.S. during the mid-month period; see the Weather Xtreme video for details. This is the winter that doesn’t want to go away easily.
