NWS Open House – March 13

The National Weather Service in Birmingham is having an open house on Saturday, March 13. You can read about it here.

Unfortunately, the scheduled visit from a Hurricane Hunter is off. Got this note today from John De Block of the NWS:

“Just received some bad news that the Hurricane Hunter will not be able to be at the Shelby County Airport for our open house on March 13th as previously planned. However, we will still be hosting an open house at the office, and the public is more than welcome to attend. While the Hurricane Hunter won’t be here, we will still have an array of emergency response apparatus courtesy of our EMA partners, as well as a tour of the office.

Media partners, I have to ask a favor of you. We are aware that there have been several groups that were planning on attending with the aircraft being the big attraction, to the point that some folks have even chartered busses! Even if you have not previously announced our open house, would you be so kind to take the quiet weather opportunity to mention our event and to pass on to folks that the Hurricane Hunter will not be able to attend?”

So… no Hurricane Hunter, but you are still welcome to visit!
