An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DOWNTOWN FIRE: Right as I was doing the Weather Xtreme video, looks like a major fire has broken out in downtown Birmingham… see this shot from our SKYCAM:

They will be posting details over on abc3340.com… that fire is adjacent to I-65, just south of “malfunction junction” in downtown Birmingham.

BRING ON THE WEEKEND: No change in our thinking for the weekend… sunny mild days and clear chilly nights. A high in the low 60s tomorrow, and mid 60s Sunday. A very nice break from the long, cold winter.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues the idea of a weakening short wave bringing a chance of showers to Alabama Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a stronger wave that could set the stage for a strong to severe thunderstorm threat Wednesday night or Thursday. Details are still a little muddy; see the Weather Xtreme video for more. No cold air next week; looks like highs will be in the 65 to 70 degree range in a daily basis through Thursday, followed by cooler air Friday.

MID-MONTH: I still figure we have a few more good cold snaps to go… but when and how cold is something we just don’t know yet. Again, see the video for ideas from the 12Z GFS.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

I had a great time today seeing 2nd graders at Pinson Elementary and 6th graders at Berry Middle School in Hoover… be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 and 6:00 on ABC 33/40 News. My next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. Monday; Brian Peters will have the video updates tomorrow and Sunday. Enjoy the weekend!
