Cold Weather Advisory Issued for All of Central Alabama for Monday 12AM-11AM

| January 18, 2025 @ 1:36 pm

A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for all of Central Alabama, taking effect from midnight Sunday night through 11 AM CST Monday. During this period, dangerously cold wind chills are expected to drop as low as around zero, posing significant risks to both health and property.

Residents should take precautions to protect themselves and others from the impacts of these extreme cold conditions. Prolonged exposure to such low temperatures can result in frostbite and hypothermia if skin is left unprotected. Additionally, the extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause water pipes to freeze and burst, leading to potential damage to homes.

It is essential to use caution when traveling outdoors. Dress appropriately by layering clothing and wearing a hat and gloves to prevent heat loss. Keep pets indoors as much as possible to ensure their safety, and regularly check on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the cold.

For those using portable heaters to stay warm, make sure they are operated correctly to avoid accidents. Generators or grills should never be used indoors, as they pose serious fire and carbon monoxide risks. To protect your home’s plumbing, pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing and bursting.

Stay prepared and take the necessary steps to keep yourself, your loved ones, and your property safe during this cold snap. As always, monitor the latest weather updates for any changes to the advisory or additional precautions.
