Winter Storm Warning Canceled; Special Weather Statement Issued for Hazardous Overnight Travel
Snow has ended for most locations in Alabama, although some snow does continue over extreme southeast portions of the state. For this reason, the winter storm warning has been canceled for central Alabama. It has been replaced with a special weather statement as travel will remain hazardous tonight with snow covered roads and below freezing temperatures. We continue to discourage travel but if you must, then please use extreme caution and ensure you have an emergency kit in your vehicle before you leave.
Another thing to keep in mind is very cold temperatues. The entire state is blanketed in cold weather advisories and extreme cold warnings, with some locations particularly over northern AL expected to see single digit low temps tonight, with wind chills even lower than that potentially. This will have the potential to lead to frostbite with prolonged exposure. So, if you have to be outdoors, please be sure to dress properly and in layers.
