Tornado Warning Issued for Southwestern Choctaw County
A tornado warning is in effect for southwestern Choctaw County in southwestern Alabama until 9:15 PM CST.
At 8:11 PM CST, a tornado-producing storm was located 5 miles east of Shubuta, or 11 miles north of Waynesboro, moving east at 35 mph. Radar has confirmed a tornado on the ground, along with the potential for half-dollar size hail.
Residents in Gilbertown and Toxey should prepare for impacts around 8:35 PM CST. This storm has the potential to cause flying debris, damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles, and the destruction of mobile homes. Tree damage is also likely.
This warning is part of an ongoing severe weather event across Alabama, where strong wind shear and high moisture levels have created favorable conditions for tornadoes. The increasing low-level jet and persistent warm sector have contributed to multiple rotating storms this evening.
If you are in the path of this storm, take cover immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows and protect yourself from flying debris. Tornadoes at night are difficult to see—do not wait for visual confirmation. Take action now.
Stay tuned for further updates.
