* 0 is the snow depth in Washington, D.C., this morning. Our own Bill Murray gave us a direct report. He is in that area this week on business.

* 77 inches is how much snow measured at BWI (Baltimore-Washington Airport) this season. The average amount by this time is only 18 inches.

* 59 inches above average is where Baltimore-Washington stands!

* 23 inches is how much snow Oklahoma City has received this season. Last year, at this time, they had received less than two inches!

* 14 % of the lower 48 states had a snow cover this morning. That contrasts with 60.2% a month ago today.

* 37 feet was the crest of the Red River flood at Fargo, N.D. That was four feet lower than the record crest about a year about this time. Flood stage is 18 feet. So the thousands of volunteers who filled many thousands of sandbags won the battle. City officials in Fargo have an elaborate plan in place to fight that annual snow-melt flood!

* 88 was the warmest in the USA Tuesday afternoon at Pecos, in West Texas. Coldest this morning, counting Alaska, was 18 below zero at Anaktuvuk Pass, Alaska. The low for the lower 48 has been reported as “not available” often since we went on DST. But here are a few lows that I picked from individual states:

8 Leadville, Colo.
2 at Stanley, Idaho
9 at Deadwood, Idaho (not to be confused with Deadwood, S.D)

* 10 feet is how far the City of Conception, Chile moved recently. No, the residents did not pack up and leave. Instead, the entire city shifted 10 feet to the southwest due to the recent violent earthquake according to the current issue of “The Week” magazine!
