Midday Nowcast: Very Warm and Dry through Easter Sunday

| April 18, 2025 @ 10:03 am

GOOD FRIDAY, GREAT WEATHER: High pressure to our east and an upper ridge over the top of us means warm days ahead with afternoon highs around ten degrees above average for this time of year. It is a mainly sunny day and it will remain dry through Easter across Alabama. Lows tonight will slide down into the upper 50s and lower 60s. For tomorrow, expect highs to surge into the mid and upper 80s all across Alabama.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For April 18th, the average high for Birmingham is 76° and the average low is 53°. The record high is 91° set in 2006, while the record low is 31° set in 1983. We average 0.16” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 2.78” set in 1943.

ACROSS THE USA: Severe thunderstorms are forecast through this weekend along a slow moving cold front and secondary storm system that will impact areas from the southern Plains to the Great Lakes. Large hail and isolated damaging wind gusts are the main threats with these storms along with a risk for heavy to excessive rainfall which could bring flooding.

EASTER SUNDAY: For those sunrise services Sunday morning, expect temperatures generally in the low to mid 60s. Sunday looks to remain dry, but it will be a warm and breezy day with highs in the 80s, a few spot will flirt with 90°. Expect a mix of sun and clouds.

NEXT WEEK: A front will sag south into the Tennessee Valley early next week and then stall, allowing for showers and thunderstorms Monday through Wednesday. Rainfall amounts next week do not look especially heavy, but just know showers are possible at just about anytime. Also, doesn’t look like severe weather will be an issue for Alabama. Highs next week will remain in the 80s.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 115.5F at Nawabshah, Pakistan. The lowest observation was -103.4F at Vostok, Antarctica.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 101F at Rio Grande Village, TX. The lowest observation was 2F at Sulphur Springs, MT.
