New Mesoscale Discussion Issued By SPC; Severe Thunderstorm Watch Likely

| May 2, 2025 @ 8:37 am

The SPC has issued a mesoscale discussion for northern Mississippi, the western half of Tennessee, and northwestern Alabama. They are indicating that there is an 80% chance that a severe thunderstorm watch will be needed. Even if this particular watch doesn’t include any Alabama counties (Although it probably will), additional watches are likely to include the northern portion of the state later today.

The main threats with todays storms will be from damaging winds of 55-70mph and large hail in the strongest thunderstorms. Not everyone will see severe weather but some will. The tornado threat is very low.
