The Alabama News Center — Get to know the protocol pros at Alabama’s Maxwell Air Force Base

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jamilla Newberry, Holm Center protocol noncommissioned officer in charge, coordinates itineraries and lodging for distinguished visitors and oversees promotion and retirement ceremonies, graduations and change of command events.

Before stepping into her current role, Newberry spent three years at Tuskegee University’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment, managing Air Force operations, maintenance funds, overseeing cadet pay, scholarships, uniforms and travel.

Her transition into protocol began after a visit from Chief Master Sgt. Jennifer McKeen, Holm Center command chief. The two met during McKeen’s visit to Tuskegee University, where Newberry served as the unit’s point of contact, and McKeen recognized Newberry’s potential and recommended her for the protocol position.
