Severe Thunderstorm Watch Cancelled for East Central Alabama

| May 18, 2025 @ 9:12 am

The National Weather Service has cancelled Severe Thunderstorm Watch 285 for six counties in east central Alabama as of 9:04 AM CDT. The watch is no longer in effect for the following areas: Calhoun, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Randolph, and Tallapoosa counties. This includes the cities of Alexander City, Anniston, Ashland, Heflin, Jacksonville, Lanett, Lineville, Roanoke, and Valley. No additional severe weather watches are currently in effect for these areas.

Things should remain calm until midafternoon at least. We are monitoring storms near the Mississippi River that will push southeast through the day. They could reach West Alabama around Sumter and Pickens counties by 3-4 p.m., pushing into Greene and Hale counties during the late afternoon. While they are expected to weaken, we all know that recent storms have been forecast to do the same…and haven’t.

As we always say when it comes to thunderstorms: expect the unexpected.
