Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Limestone, Madison, Lauderdale, Colbert, and Lawrence Counties Until 6:00 PM

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Limestone, northwestern Madison, southeastern Lauderdale, east central Colbert, and northeastern Lawrence counties in north Alabama until 6:00 PM CDT. At 4:56 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located over Sheffield, moving east at 45 mph. This storm has a history of producing golf ball size hail and is also capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph.

People and animals outdoors are at risk of injury from large hail, and damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles is expected. Wind damage to trees and structures is also possible. Communities in the path of this storm include Madison, Harvest, Florence, Tuscumbia, Killen, Oakland, French Mill, Cartwright, Coxey, and the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport.

Remain alert for the potential of a tornado, as these storms can quickly produce one. If a tornado is spotted or a warning is issued, take cover immediately in a basement or interior room. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the area until 10:00 PM CDT. Now is the time to move to a safe place away from windows and protect yourself from large hail and damaging winds.
