Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Pickens and Lamar Counties Until 8 PM
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northern Pickens County and Lamar County in west central Alabama, effective until 8:00 PM CDT.
At 7:09 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Ethelsville, about 8 miles southeast of Columbus, moving northeast at 15 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter size hail. These conditions may cause damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.
The storm has really intensified, especially near Macedonia. Lots of instability still available with decent wind shear for organization. In fact the storm has a hook type structure, but the tornad threat is near zero.
Areas impacted include Vernon, Sulligent, Reform, Millport, Kennedy, Ethelsville, and surrounding communities. Residents in the path of this storm should seek shelter in an interior room away from windows.
