Severe Thunderstorms Advancing Across North and Central Alabama Tonight

A broken but powerful line of severe thunderstorms continues to push east and southeast across North and Central Alabama this evening.

At 9:30 PM, radar showed strong storms stretching from south of Decatur to just west of Jasper, then southwestward through areas north of Tuscaloosa, north of Aliceville, and into eastern Mississippi near Macon and Philadelphia.

These storms are capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and heavy rainfall.

Severe thunderstorm warnings remain in effect for much of the region ahead of the line. Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 11 p.m. It may have to be extended in time.

Communities in the path of these dangerous storms include Cullman, Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville, Athens, Madison, Owens Cross Roads, Union Grove, Scottsboro, Guntersville, Arab, New Hope, and Jasper, along with Wilburn, Lim Rock, Valhermoso Springs, Crane Hill, Speake, Basham, Painter, Union Grove, and Rabbit Town.

Seek shelter immediately and stay weather aware through the evening hours.
