Strong Storms Continue Across Central And Southwest Alabama

| May 25, 2025 @ 11:34 pm

A broken but potent line of thunderstorms continues to push eastward through Central and Southwest Alabama late this evening. As of 11:30 PM, severe thunderstorm warnings remain in effect for Bibb, Perry, Hale, Marengo, Choctaw, Clarke, and Washington counties. The strongest activity is concentrated in a zone from southeast of Tuscaloosa into Bibb and Perry counties, then extending southwest through Marengo and Choctaw counties. These storms have shown brief intensification but have weakened somewhat in the last hour. Still, they remain capable of producing damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph.

Farther north, moderate to heavy rainfall is ongoing across Northeast Alabama, with scattered thunderstorms continuing along and near the I-20 corridor from east of Birmingham to Anniston. A line of storms is currently moving into the Birmingham metro area. While these storms are not currently severe, they may bring gusty winds, lightning, and brief heavy downpours. No warnings are in effect for Jefferson or Shelby counties at this time, but radar trends will continue to be monitored closely overnight.

The overall severe threat appears to be decreasing slowly, but strong to occasionally severe storms remain possible, especially across the southern half of the state. The severe thunderstorm watch continues for much of Central and South Alabama through 3:00 AM CDT. Wind damage remains the primary concern, though isolated hail and frequent lightning may still accompany the stronger storms. Stay weather aware through the early morning hours and have a way to receive warnings if one is issued for your area.
