Looking Ahead For Todays Severe Weather

| May 27, 2025 @ 9:28 am

As you are starting your morning you may notice some dark clouds in the sky. Do not be alarmed! As the day continues on, we may experience some heavy rain and damaging winds in some parts of Alabama today, but the chances for a tornado are looking quite slim.

We are experiencing a very moist atmosphere today as there is a disturbance moving through Mississippi that is bringing severe thunderstorms with damaging wind reports in the Jackson area. The main storm will enter the Alabama border around 10 am, there is a connected line that has already crossed the border into Sumter, Choctaw, Greene, Hale, and Marengo counties.

The SPC outlooks are showing a slight risk (2/5) through most of south-central Alabama with a marginal risk (1/5) in most of northern Alabama.

The HRRR models are showing this storm weakening throughout the afternoon and into the evening hours.

As we look ahead, today will consist of strong thunderstorms with the biggest risk being damaging winds with a slight possibility of hail being produced. Be aware of heavy rain and high winds within these cells if you are commuting today.
