Flood Watch Issued for Central Alabama
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for central Alabama, effective through late tonight, as continued rounds of showers and thunderstorms bring heavy rainfall to the region. The affected areas include numerous cities such as Birmingham, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa, among others.
Excessive runoff could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Urban areas are particularly susceptible to flooding during the overnight hours.
Saturated soil conditions are present following multiple rounds of heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours, could allow for rapid runoff is expected with widespread heavy rainfall that will move across Central Alabama through late tonight.
Everyone is advised to monitor forecasts and remain alert for potential flood warnings. Those living in flood-prone areas should be prepared to take action if flooding develops. Always remember to TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN if you come encounter flooding.
