Storms Will Provide An Early Wake Up for West Alabama

You can clearly see the surface low tonight over southern Arkansas. The low looks like it is moving a little faster tonight and it will be in southern Illinois by morning.

You can also see a fairly decent line of thunderstorms that has crossed the Mississippi River in Northwest Mississippi. Nothing severe, although couldn’t rule out a warning for the next couple of hours over western Tennessee or northern Mississippi. There were warnings earlier in eastern Arkansas and a severe thunderstorm watch expired at 10 p.m. to the west of Alabama.

There is almost no CAPE ahead of the line of storms and it should weaken as it comes eastward, but it still could be a jolting wake up call from folks in West Alabama.

This line of storms will reach Florence after 2 a.m., Hamilton after 3 a.m. and Lamar County after 4.

This line should diminish after it moves into Alabama during the early morning hours.

The cold front is back over Northwest Louisiana. It will move into western Alabama late tomorrow morning and march eastward across the state. With the heating of the day, storms could refire around I-65 and become intense over eastern Alabama during the afternoon. We will be watching for the possibility of severe weather over eastern sections of the area with the possibility of damaging winds, hail and even tornadoes.

Mostly cloudy skies will remain tomorrow night wit the upper trough rotating in here. Skies will clear on Monday, and it will be cooler. But next week promises to be a beautiful week of springlike weather with 70s Tuesday through Thursday, and the chance we could see 80F by Friday!

I will have another update by 2:30 a.m., unless any watches are warnings are issued for Alabama. I don’t expect that to be the case, but as we always say, expect the unexpected when it comes to spring weather in Alabama.
